Victoria Karting - Rules

Philosophy: Our primary goal is to develop driving talent in a safe and cost effective manor. Therefore, Victoria Karting will implement and experiment with special rules to help achieve these ends. Such rules include the mandated use of UK-style full rear bumpers, class structure with an emphasis on low maintenance sealed engines, and tire management regulations. Although we understand that not everyone will agree with all of our supplementary regulations, we are making these decisions with the goal of developing driving talent in the safest and most cost effective way.

General Rules: Victoria Karting follows ASN CANADA FIA GENERAL COMPETITION REGULATIONS (ASN) except for the following VK supplementary rules. Click here to view the ASN karting rules

Penalties for Technical Infractions:

if we find any alterations to the inside of a motor during a teardown, we reserve the right to assess an automatic 6 month suspension!  Any external modification or technical infraction will result in disqualification and possible suspension.  Tire soaking, or any kind of internal softening, will be prohibited. No chemicals can be applied to tires either by soaking or injecting. We will durometer stock tires hot and cold. If your tires durometer 5 points softer than our control set, we will confiscate and destroy affected tires and you will be suspended for 1 month.   Multiple technical will face a 6 month suspension.

Remember: at the race-start, there is no "pullout & passing" allowed down the home straight-away as you approach the start line. This is primarily to keep karts no more than 2-wide in the first turn. Some drivers are still jumping out of the grid as they anticipate the green flag being waved.

- center Fuel tanks are highly recommended and will be required following the 2008/2009 winter series.

- penalty for cheating in Honda class - Driver and team face a 6 month suspension if caught with the following: any aftermarket part not expressly allowed in ASN rules such as aftermarket pistons, connecting rods, camshaft, crankshaft or a reground camshaft. All other infractions will face disqualification and loss of points. Multiple infractions could lead to further suspensions.

Weights

- we suggest buying lead from our local diving shops. Be sure to fasten them to the seat or chassis with minimum of 2 - 1/4" bolts.

Fuel

- all fuel must be purchased at the Chevron in Langford on the day of racing. Regular for 4 Stroke Classes; 94 for 2 Stroke Classes, Fuel may be tested at any time.

Transponders

Transponders MUST be mounted using approved clips and MUST be mounted on the back of the seat or on the frame bars behind, or beside the seat.

Tires

All racers must use VK Branded tires only. This is In the interest of cost reduction and fairness. In order to reduce costs, Victoria Karting limits the number of tires racers can use during the season. This rule also helps to maintain fairness by providing consistent rubber softness for all competitors (single tire source) and allowing us to police the use of softening agents through durometer testing. VK Branded Series 3 is now available for the 2010 Summer series and this single set should last through till the end of the year (VK Branded series 1 and 2 are still legal if the wear markers are still showing and a racer chooses to run them). VK Branded tires are only available through Reaume Bros Racing. Call Josh at 250-589-KART or pick up a set at the track on race day.

- Tire soaking, or any kind of internal softening, will be prohibited. No chemicals can be applied to tires either by soaking or injecting. We will durometer stock tires hot and cold. If your tires durometer 5 points softer we will confiscate and destroy affected tires and you will be suspended for 1 month.

No Rain Tires Allowedslick tires only will be allowed rain or shine. This rule will help to reduce costs (rain tires last for only a few races). Although drivers will have to exercise caution when driving in the wet, they will adapt and benefit greatly from learning car control in slippery conditions.

ALL drivers MUST wear:

-approved helmets
-long pants
-proper shoes, no loose laces
-long sleeved shirts, jackets or racing suits (preferred)
-gloves
-neck collars (optional)
-NO loose clothing, sweatshirts, belts, laces, or long hair
